Retro-fit Of Underfloor heating As Part Of Major Alterations |

|
It is unusual to install warm water UFH into a pre-existing house because of the upheaval involved i.e digging up of floors. One of our customers decided to take this rather radical step as part of major alterations to her house in Norwich. The property is a large detached 1950's house which had been extended during the 1970's leaving a rather unsatisfactory sequence of rooms downstairs, including a smallish kitchen where the boiler was situated. The customer firstly had a new boiler installed in a different location, before planning major alterations to the ground floor of the property to form a large open plan kitchen/dining area with double doors leading through to a sitting room. The plan incorporated a lot of windows and doors all the way along the back wall of the property making radiator positions difficult. With walls being removed and flooring being changed the customer decided to opt for underfloor heating throughout the ground floor. The family moved upstairs and fortunately due to the structure of the pre-existing floors only part of it had to be dug up. R A Brown installed a Henco UFH system, siting the manifold in a kitchen cupboard which already housed the electricity meter and water softener. Flexible Gyvlon screed was used and the floor was finished with ceramic tiles in the kitchen and wood laminate in hallway. The customer reports that when she turns the heating on from cold the kitchen begins to warm up within an hour, which shows that Gyvlon screed really does make a difference. R A brown also provided hot and cold services in poly-pex pipe and upgraded some of the radiator system on the first floor.
